The word goes out.
Healing comes home.

There is a particular kind of tiredness that comes from praying about the same thing for a long time. Not doubt exactly — you still believe He can. What wears thin is the believing that He will, and soon.

Scripture is honest about that stretch. Abraham waited twenty-five years. Hannah prayed through years of silence before Samuel. Neither of them was being punished, and neither was being ignored. They were being carried through a season that looked, from inside it, like nothing was happening.

If you are in that stretch tonight, hear this plainly: the delay is not the verdict. Keep asking. Keep bringing it. And let somebody stand with you while you do.

James gives instructions almost embarrassingly ordinary. Is anyone among you sick? Call for the elders. Let them pray. That is it — no stage, no crowd, no atmosphere to work up.

What strikes me is the direction of it. The sick person calls. Healing begins with somebody being willing to say out loud that they are not well, which for many of us is the hardest part of the whole business.

Then: pray for one another. Not at one another. Alongside. Whatever you are carrying this week, the instruction is to stop carrying it privately.

Ten were healed. One came back. The other nine were not villains — they were simply people who received something and moved on with their lives, which is the most natural thing in the world.

Answered prayer has an afterward, and the afterward is where most of us get quiet. The asking had urgency in it. The receiving has gratitude. What comes next is just Tuesday, and Tuesday is where a healed life is actually built.

So build it. Stay in the word. Stay near people. And go back and say thank you — not because He needs it, but because you do.
